Project Title: Yampa River Basin Endangered Fish Recovery and Water Management Plan <br /> <br />II, Principal Investigator(s): Gerry Roehm, Yampa River Coordinator <br />P,O, Box 25486, Denver Federal Center <br />Denver, CO 80225-0486 <br />E-mail: gerry Joehm@fws,gov <br />Phone: (303) 236-8155 x272 <br />Fax: (303) 236-3163 <br /> <br />III, Project Summary: The objectives of the Yampa Plan are to provide water for existing and <br />foreseeable future hwnan needs in the Yampa River Basin and protect instream flows and <br />aquatic habitat necessary to maintain and recover endangered fishes and protect other <br />native fish and wildlife resources in the Yampa River Basin, <br /> <br />In April 1998 the FWS hired a full-time biologist to serve as the Yampa River Coordinator. <br />His principal responsibility is to oversee and facilitate development of the Yampa Plan by <br />working cooperatively with representatives of other federal, state and local agencies and <br />governments, research scientists, contractors, consultants, and private organizations, as well <br />as municipal, agricultural, industrial and recreational interests and the general public. This <br />) position is located in the FWS Region 6 Office in Lakewood, Colorado, <br /> <br />In May 1998, a public meeting was held in Craig, Colorado, to present the results of <br />various studies concerning Yampa Basin hydrology, instream flow needs of endangered <br />fishes, future human water needs, and aquatic wildlife management. An overview of the <br />NEP A process also was presented at that time, <br /> <br />In June 1998, the Yampa River Coordinator completed the FY 99 umbrella scope of work <br />(SOW) for the Yampa Operation and Management Plan and negotiated revised scopes of <br />work with Ayres Associates for work to be completed through FY 99 in fulfillment of <br />Tasks 5, 6 and 7 of the Yampa SOW, Also in June, BBC completed its Yampa Valley <br />Water Demand Study final report, in fulfillment of Task 2 of the Yampa SOW, <br /> <br />In August 1998, a draft report entitled Determination of Habitat Availability and Habitat <br />Use of Endangered Fishes in the Yampa River During Basejlow Period Between August <br />and October was completed by Modde, Anderson and Miller in partial fulfillment of Tasks <br />la & Ib of the Yampa SOW, In September, the report was submitted for peer review, A <br />conference of the prinicipal investigators, the peer review panel, members of the Yampa <br />Management Team, and other interested parties was scheduled in October to discuss and <br />incorporate review comments on the draft report, Following revision, a second draft will <br />be submitted to the Biology Committee in December for its review, <br /> <br />IV, Study Schedule: FY 1996-2001 <br /> <br />CAP-9, Yampa O&M Plan - Page I <br />
