Introduction
789
790 This Strategic Plan responds to the specific management objectives and prioritized
791 information needs developed by the TWG and adopted by the AMWG. These are detailed in
792 Appendix A.4 Management objectives and information needs help to define measurable
793 standards of desired conditions which will serve as targets expected to be achieved by the
794 participants in the AMP. The objectives and information needs also drive the strategic
795 planning process and they provide the basis for the formulation of the long-term monitoring
796 research program described elsewhere in this plan.
797
798 Historical Development Of The ManaJ!:ement Obiectives And Information Needs
799 Using the nine resource areas in the EIS, the Upper Colorado Regional Office of the
800 Bureau of Reclamation worked with a subgroup of the Transition Work Group to develop
801 management objectives intended to guide the development of GCMRC monitoring and
802 research activities. This group was disbanded with the completion of their assignment and
803 release of their July, 19965 recommendations.
804 Many stakeholders that participated in the Transition Work Group now serve in the
805 AMWG and the TWG, providing continuity for the AMP. Also in 1996, under the guidance
806 of GCMRC, several workshops were held with scientists who had conducted research under
807 the auspices of GCES to define information needs associated with the various management
808 objectives.
809 In July 1997, AMWG requested that the TWG proceed with the evaluation andp
:,
"

<'

~

~
.:

~

· Appeodix A contains maoagement objectives and prioritized information needs.
, Adapted from Gl~n Canyon Dam MQ1I(lg~ml!TIl Obj~ctiv~s, Bureau of Reclamation memorandum UC-20S, ,

November S, 1998
SecODd Draft - Do Not Cite, Pbotocopy, or Distribute
