..v

COLORADO RIVER INDIAN RESERVATION ~ ARIZONA

I"~
""Q
i-'-
~

Data available indicates this unit is not a significant contributor to
the salt problem in the Colorado River. Therefore, the USDA study underway
is being performed with irrigation water management as the primary
objective rather than salinity control. It is a USDA Cooperative River
Basin Study carried out under Sec. 6 of Public Law 83-566, at the request
of the Tribal Council and the Parker Valley Natural Resource Conservation
District.

SCS's basic data collection is progressing on schedule. The soil survey
is about 15% complete. Onfarm water measuring weirs to determine
irrigation effiencies have been installed. Weirs to measure project
spills have been installed at 30 sites.

LITTLE COLORADO RIVER BASIN - ARIZONA AND NEW MEXICO

This study is also being performed as a USDA Cooperative River Basin
Study under Sec. 6 of Public Law 83-566, in response to requests from the
Arizona Water Commission, the New Mexico State Engineer's Office, and the
involved Natural Resource Conservation Districts in the Basin. If the
study shows significant potential for salinity control, then a separate
salinity control report will be issued by USDA, To date the study shows
that salt loading from range and irrigated land in the Basin is quite
small. The study report is scheduled to be completed in March 1981.

PALO VERDE - CALIFORNIA

No change in status,

WPRS has not yet reached a decision on whether to proceed with a study on
the Palo Verde Unit, pending the completion of an EPA-funded 208 water
quality study. SCS's agreement with WPRS is to proceed with a study when
they initiate theirs.

DIRTY DEVIL RIVER - UTAH

No work has been done on this unit and preparation of a plan of study has
been indefinitely delayed.

LYMAN - WYOMING

Salinity prOblems and potential solutions were reviewed onsite.
Preliminary evaluation of the prOblems and the poor potential to arrive
at a viable solution have placed this proposed study in a "schedule
delayed" category. Final decisions as to what can be done in Big Sandy
need to be reached before proceeding with this study. No activity is
anticipated during the next 6 months.

HENRY'S FORK - MANILA - WYOMING

.

This study remains in the "not scheduled" category pending decisions on
the Big Sandy and the Lyman Units.

ROARING FORK - COLORADO

,

This study remains in the "not scheduled" category.

_"i"~-

I
11
',',,,,.'
.t&. i:"-,i,~i~:ii ,"~,' ;'~k~-j
