Page Eighteen

As competition and controversy increases over available surface supply, vast

quantities of untapped groundwater lie dormant under the metro Denver area.

Some people believe that large-scale development of this resource should be

avoided due to the fears that reliance on this finite supply would precipitate

a crisis in the future. The Groundwater Task Group feels adequate study may

prove this fear is premature for wells being drilled today. If the

engineering is possible,. and the economics are favorable, prudent management

of this vast resource may provide many years of supply. It should be

recognized however, that a number of years may be required for the necessary

engineering studies and judicial proceedings to be completed.

Present studies, although general and preliminary in nature, suggest the

possibility of reliance to some degree upon bedrock groundwater as a partial

solution to future metro Denver water needs, and therefore should be examined

thoroughly.
