,,'

001407

.

.

ME

~ND GM 1/
sc 1\1
ASC
-
F
I
ill dv
--

Date: August 4, 1992
To: Ray Tenney
From; Cbuck Brendecke
Re: Progress Report for July 1992 - Yampa Bas

Our work effort in July was directed at Tasks 1 and 7.

In Task I, we prepared for and participated in a Technical Steering Group (TSG) meeting on
July 7 and a public meeting in Craig on July 29. We also bad a brief meeting with you on July? here at
Hydrospbere to prepare for the public meeting. The topic of all these meetings was the evaluation of
reservoir alternatives done using the basin model. The July 7 TSG meeting and two earlier TSG meetings
beld in June (all to discuss intermediate model resuIts) have not been sununarized and circulated. I will
do so for the record within the next few days.

In Task 7 we carned out a number of model refinements and re-ran all the model scenarios
several times to assess tbe effects of those refinements. The refinements mainly addressed the protocols
for access to storage supplies and the model treatment of reservoir spills and bypasses. We also bave
begun preparation of the draft Task 7 Technical Memorandum.

On otber mailers, I bave obtained from Doug Laiho an estimate for additionaltopograpbic map-
ping at Elkbead Reservoir. The existing pbotography will support mapping of2' contours up to eleva-
tion 6390; this is below normal high water at the enlarged capacity (el. 6405). To include the entire en-
largement plus flood pool we would need contours up to elevation 6420. Obtaining topography above
6390 would entail more aerial photography and control. Doug estimated that existing photos could be
mapped for about $2500 and that new mapping above 6390 would cost about $12,000. Sooner or later I
suspect the additional flights will be necessary. Let me know what you want to do on this.

Doug is also obtaining the existing topographic mapping for Stagecoach. At tbis point we be-
lieve tbe existing 2' contour mapping will acconiillOdate the enlargement pool there.

I am preparing some very rough cost data for the gravity diversion into the Elk Creek reservoir
from Fisb and Trout creeks. Tbis can be incorporated into your leller to the P AG responding to com-
ments from the July 29 public meeting. I'll call you as soon as 1 have some numbers.

Let me know if you have any questions or comments on our July work effort.

cc;Sue Uppendahl
Bob Norman

_:jd
L:\PROJECTS\155\TASKI\MEM049.RDT 08/06/9210;44 AM

Hydrospbere 1002 Walnut Suite 200 Boulder, Colorado 80302

'.
