.
!

.

'.

which can be utilized immediately.

When Sec~etary Fall

was in the Valley some time ago the ex-service men had a

conference with him, in which conference he said that he

was behind everythin~ that the American Legion wanted, and

we made a proposition to him that if fifty thousand acres

COuld be set aside for tho soldiers and veterans welfare

work in the state of California, it should be developed

immediately and put in shape so ex-service men could go

there and start farming.

Our endeavor will be to incor-

porate into this bill a clause which will g~ant preferential

settlolnent rights to ox-service men and l"iOmOn; and not only

th~t, but we are going to endoavor to got the Government

in some way or other to finance these men who desire to

Settle on this land, booause without some financial aid
it will be impOSSible for them to go on the land and make

a success of'farmins.

It costs money to reclaim desert

land.

By ~uttin6 these men on thero,-- all we ask is that

,the Fede~al Government extend to tho ex-serVice men some

financial eid, ~hich they can in the future return to the

Government.

All we ask for is a chance to get the necessary

finances to GO on the land and develop it and make prosper-

ous farms of it.

;..e are in favor of the Federal Government

proceedins at once to the construction of this dam.

'CHUi1NAN HOOVLR;

The Commission is devoted entirely to

the ~uestion of the ~espective ri~hts between the stetes in

the matter of the title and equitable division of the water,
