.

,

J

~

.

.

.
.

Some savings probably could be achieved by combining
various alternatives with synergistic effects or by
combining the use of drainwater and fresh water to
meet industrial needs (e.g. combined conventional and
BCT cooling at Wellington could permit developing the
full 1,600 MW of planned capacity).

II

4.

RECOMMENDATIONS

All of the appraisal designs in the report are based on
limited data, since the verification activities are still
underway and the water and salt budgets crucial to under-
standing and quantifying salt loading are not complete. It
is recommended that the verification activities using a
full year of data be completed before writing the final
draft of the Appraisal Level Design Report. It is also
recommended that the data collection continue uninterrupted
for another year on those alternatives that stay in for
further consideration. The cost would be minimal since
most of the needed instrumentation is already in place.
This past year was not a typical year and another year of
data collection would .. smooth out" the data base and pro-
vide an opportunity to close gaps that were not discovered
until too late in the year.

I I
I
I

,
II:
'I!
'!
