l ~ . . -. '.. Chapter 1 .. APPRAISAL LEVEL DESIGNS SUMMARY ~ There are a number of possible options for reducing salin- ity from the Price and San Rafael River Basins. In the Alternative Plans Report, submitted to the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation (USBR) in March 1982, some 28 different pos- sible alternatives were investigated. Through screening and input from the USBR and other localr state, and Federal agencies, the alternatives were narrowed to the following eight for development of appraisal level designs and cost estimates. -. -, -1 "l , 1 Alternative No. 1 No Action Alternative No. 2 Irrigation Improvements Alternative No. 3 Drainwater for Cooling Alternative No. 4 Drainwater for Treatment or Disposal Alternative No. S Drainwater for Industrial Use Alternative No. 6 Selective Withdrawal Alternative No. 7 Retire Farmland Alternative No. 8 Fresh Water for Other Benefi- cial Use J -, J -Cl ._.-i -J 1 Within each general alternative there are a number of op- tions. In alternative No.2, the options have been com- bined into eight plans, which are defined later in this chapter in the section dealing with irrigation improve- ments. A summary of the features, cost, and effectiveness -_.----- of all options having a cost eff~ctiveness of $1 milli~n or less per mg /1 salinity reduction at Imper-iaI-lSain-'Ts -pre- sented in Table 1.1. A summary of environmental implica- tions for all eight alternatives is presented in Table 1.2.
