It is a national organization and has only 40,000

members from coast to coast. The Sierra Club represents no interest

anywhere, moreover, which is willing to pledge repayment of costs of

dams and aqueducts needed to maintain the economic well-being of

California, Arizona and other States of the Southwest which depend upon

the river."

These points were made today by Philip Corrin, president of the

Colorado River Association, to correct the record in the controversy

over legislation to authorize construction of Hualapai Dam and Marble

Canyon Dam. These two dams are essential to help repay US funds

advanced to finance the water project endorsed by the seven Governors

of California, Arizona, Nevada, Utah, Colorado, Wyoming and New Mexico,

Corrin said.

The legislation now pending in Congress is supported by the
California State Chamber of Commerce, the Irrigation Districts Assn. of

california, the Feather River Project Association, the Los Angeles

Chamber of Commerce, the Colorado River Board of California, the Metro-

politan Water District, the Los Angeles Dept. of Water & Power, the San

Diego County Water Authority, the Imperial Irrigation Dist., the

Coachella Valley County Water Dist., the Palo Verde Irrigation Dist.,

and the Colorado River Association, among others.

-hbr-
