The contract, for repay- ment of $28 million of ,the estimated $54 million cost of the project, was approved overwhelmingly by voters in Montrose and Delta counties, and voters in Ouray County were against the contract by a narrow margin. By BILL HAGGERTY Daily Press Staff Writer The Dallas Creek Project repayment schedule passed by almost a 9-1 margin yesterday, with voter turnout heavier than any other special election in recent memory in the area. Tbe schedule for construction of the Ridgway Dam was outlined by a Bureau of Reclamation spokesman in a telephone in- terview tbis morning. According to Dick Cummings from the bureau construction headquarters in Mon- trose, the bureau has.continued its plans for ~onstruction 01 the dam, and speCifications for a field office, 10 be built in Ridgway. should go out in February. Specifications for construction of the Dam will probably go out in June, accor- ding 10 Cummings, witb construction to begin hopefully in September, 1977, nine months from now. AlOtal of 5,811 persons cast ballots yester- day in parts of Montrose, Delta and Ouray counties to decide on the repayment schedule. One ballot was illegible in Delta county. ; 01 that total tbere were 5,197 votes in favor of the repayment schedule and 613 :votes against. . Only one precinct out of 10 voted against ,the project. That was precinct I, the Oddfellows Hall in Ridgway, where the vote was 148 against the project andSOinfavor. The only other precinct that was even close was Precinct 2, Grange Hall in COlona, where the vote was 55 in favor ofthe re-payment schedule and 25 against. According to voter officials in Ridgway, voter turn-out was lighter than expected in Ouray county. Total figures for the county show a close race, though, with 136 votes in favor of the schedule and 180 votes against. Those totals include absentee ballots from Ouray. In Montrose County, where voter turnout was unexpectedly high, all precincts voted heavily in favor ofthe repayment schedule. The vote county wide, shows 3,660 votes in favor and only 390 votes against. The widest margin of victory in Montrose county was in Precinct 7. Fireman's Hall in OIathe, where the vote was 923 in favor and 34 against, a margin of about 27 to one. In Delta county, the vote was also heavily in favor of the project, even more so than in Montrose County. Vote tally in that county shows 1,401 votes in favor of the project and only 43 against it. That is a margin of about 32 to one. Widest margin of victory in that county was in Precinct 8, the courthouse in Delta, which showed a vote of 524 in favor of the project and 15 against.
