Holly has a modern school system providing excellent <br /> <br /> <br />educational facilities for grades 1 t~ough 12. <br /> <br /> <br />Future development in the Holly ~rea will probably depend on <br /> <br /> <br />agricultural growth and the cattle industry. Although expansion of <br /> <br /> <br />crop raising aCreage is not anticipated, net income is expected to <br /> <br /> <br />increase through improved farming tec;hniques'that increase per acre <br /> <br /> <br />y~elds. Cattle feed lot operations are expected to increase as cattle <br /> <br /> <br />marketing areas develop in the west apd southwest parts of the countrY. <br /> <br /> <br />'fhere is One feed lot, cu.jJablo of hu.r\dl:l.ng up \;0 10,000 head o,r ,,/1.1;\;,1 e, <br /> <br /> <br />located one mile north of Holly, Although the lot is not in opern'!,ion <br /> <br /> <br />at present, it is on the market and has the potential of becoming <br /> <br /> <br />an important element in the economy of Holly. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />PROBLEMS & NEEDS <br />STATUS OF EXISTING PLANS AND IMPROVEMENTS <br />The Original Wild Horse Creek cha~el, which passed through the <br />c<,\nter of HOlly, was cleaned and the :t.evees 'repaired in 1951 by the <br />Corps of' gngineers under a.uthori ty of Section 2 of 19'rr Flood Control <br />Act. SUbsequenUy, the Holly Flood C(~>ntrol, Drainage nnd Sanltat Ion <br />District diverted the creek along the iwesternedge of town via a <br />leveed channel with a 150 foot bottom 'width and 1 on 3 side slopes, <br />Thb lower reach of the levees which w,,\shed out during the 1965 flood <br />were rebuilt by the Corps of Engineer~ under Public Laws 875 and 99, <br />Channel capacity of the diversion is about 8.000 c.f.s" a flow <br />expected to occur once in 9 years, <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />8 <br />
