.

1517

.

Malta Federal Fish Hatchery
NPDES #CO-0000582
WQMP I.D. No. LK-6

.

The Malta Federal Fish Hatchery is controlled by the Depart-
ment of the Interior. The acting manager at the time of the
visit (March 1974) was Bill Swinehart with Mike Johnson as the
maintenance man. The hatchery is located approximately 5 miles
west-southwest of Leadville. The hatchery raises approximately
100,000 lbs of fish per year.

The water is diverted from Rock Creek and flows through the fish
ponds before being discharged back to Rock Creek. The discharge
is between 0.5 and 1.0 mgd. No treatment is applied to the dis-
charged \~ater.

.

.

Matchless Estates
NPDES #
WQMP I.D. No. LK-7

.

Matchless Estates is a subdivision located approximately 0.8
miles west of Leadville. The subdivision has approximately
40 homes with an estimated population of 140.

.

The sewage treatment facilities consist of a single facultative
non-aerated lagoon. The lagoon was originally designed for 35
homes. The county commission has passed a restraining order
against further development at this subdivision. The unlined
lagoon discharges intermittently to a dry creek. Since evapora-
tion can account for only 10-15% of the annual sewage influent
quantities, the majority of the flow is either discharged or
percolated.

.

Molly Brown Village
NPDES #CO-0029637
WQf1P L D. No. LK-8

.

The Molly Brown Village is owned by Jim Lee1inger and is managed
by Mr. & Mrs. Lyle Farver. It is located approximately 1 mile
northlof Leadville. At the time of the visit (November 1974),
there were 55 mobile homes on site.

.

The sewage treatment facilities consist of a septic tank and la-
goon connected in series. The lagoon was made of highly per-
vious materials and as a result the sewage depth is about one
foot. If the bottom of the lagoon becomes sealed, it would ap-
pear that the lagoon would not adequately treat the estimated
flows.

11

.
