.

Mr. Roy Aqui11ard
May 20, 1976
Page 2

o
C-'
~
c:;)
c.o
ClO

I

I

As the urban area continues to grow, many new developments are springing up
in' what may be severe hazard areas. However, in the absence of conclusive
and quantitative information concerning flooding, drainage and ground water
pollution, planning applications are somewhat limited. This area could well
benefit ,by having accurate, consistent and ,complete studies made by the Army
Corps of Engineers, or another capable organization.

I

I

I

One thing mentioned in the Assessment Report which surprised us;
a1 though we do not have adequate resource information in this area, was
the amount of water allocated for irrigation. In our area, we have found
the practice of irrigation to be almost non-existent in most years; and
because this is primarily due to climatic conditions, rather than crop
requirements, we would expect the situation to be similar in Beinvi11e,
Red River, and Nachitoches Parishes. However, we have no data for these
parishes, and their agricultural similarity is purely an assumption.

I

I

I

In general, though, we feel this assessment to be reliable and we
concur with its findings. We appreciate the opportunity to comment; and
would like to receive a final copy of the report.

I

h'ere1Y,

lJ'::?!n Allen,

MAYOR

j:;.

I

1~1~~

Jr.

I
I

LCA : gg

I

I

I

I
I

156

I
