Griesel Regional Study Director Missouri River Basin Commission I I I 147 I Comment that irrigated acreages reported by two surveys show 1975 acreages for many counties exceeding the 1985 projections, and some exceeding the 2000 projections. He commented that we may see a reduction in irrigated acreage in several counties which may encounter groundwater depletion problems, especially in Wichita, Scott, and Lane counties. He also raised a question concerning the irrigation projections for southeast Kansas. He commented that the projections for that area are probably too low. By letter of April 29, 1976, Mr. Burris noted the absence of data for surface water require- ments for recreation and fish and wildlife purposes. During conversation with John Henderson, Kansas Water Resources Board staff, Mr. Bredahl raised questions regarding irrigation projections for Brown and Doniphan counties and for the southeast Kansas region. He also raised a question about the quantity of land projected for mining purposes. During a telephone conversation, Mr. Hersch raised a question concerning the amount of irrigated acreages from surface water sources in the Kansas River subbasin (ASA 1010). By memorandum of May 12, 1976, Mr. Griesel, at the direction of the Framework Update Committee, raised questions concerning the present amount of irrigated acreage, irrigation water withdrawal, and irrigation consumptive use.
