The congtruction co,t of the Palo, <br />Verdes reservoir and appurtenances to June 30, 1942 was <br />$909,290.83, including cottage and chlorination station. <br /> <br />MOITis Dam <br />In accordance with the term, of a contract made in November <br />1932, between The Metropolitan Water Diotrict of Southern Cali, <br />fornia and the City of Pasadena, the ownership of Morrio Dam <br />and reservoir passed from the City of Pasadena to the District on <br />June 17, 1941, the dllte of first delivery of Colorado River water. <br />Prior to the transfer, a decision was reached to have the operator <br />of the dam and reservoir live on the property. Accordingly a <br />contract for the construction of an operator's cottage was awarded <br />to John C. Blystone, Garden Grove, California, on July 18, 1941. <br />Construction of the cottage was started on August 1 and completed <br />on November 19. The total cost of the cottage, electrical installa, <br />tion, and sewage system was $9,800.49. <br /> <br />Surveys, Ora.nge CO/fHty feeder e~rtetl8ioH <br />At an election held on July 29, 1941 the Coastal Municipal <br />\Vater District was created. The new District, which was formed <br />as a first step toward annexation to The Metropolitan Water Dis, <br />trict of Southern California, includes the Laguna Beach County <br />Water District within which is the City of Laguna Beach, South <br />Coast County Water District, Newport Heights and Newport Mesa <br />Irrigation Districts, and some unincorporated lands in the vicinity <br />of Newport Beach. The final election conoummating annexation <br />was held on June 2, 19.12. In order to serve the newly created <br />municipal water district, it is planned to extend the Orange County <br />feeder from its present terminus on Bristol Street in the City of <br />Santa Ana, just south of Santiago Creek, approximately 12.6 mileo <br />to connect with the existing Lag-una Beach supply line on the Coast <br />Highway in the vicinity of Corona Del Mar. <br />Field surveys on this line were started September 18, 1941, prior <br />to actual annexation, in order to avoid later delay in beginning <br />construction. These surveys were continued on a part-time basis <br />until Pearl Harbor when emergency activities occasiuned by the <br />war disrupted the work. Following the annexation election in <br />June 1942, the survey work was resumed and plans instituted for <br />building the line.
