OD0335

.

PART VI. DESCRIPTION OF RIVER SEGMENTS USED IN THE
HYDROLOGIC ANALYSIS

In this analysis, the Mancos River basin has been divided into segments,

with estimates of virgin stream flows being made for each segment. The location

and drainage area for each segment is shown on Figure 2. The following is a

description of the river segments, together with information concerning the

drainage basin characteristics for each segment:

A. Upstream of the confluence of the West, Middle, and East Mancos Rivers

- located at the sites of the three USGS gaging stations, approximately

three miles northeast of Mancos. Streamflow at this location is from

the following tributaries:

.

West Mancos River
Middle Mancos River
East Mancos River
Total

Drainage
Area
(sq-mi)
42
12
12
66

Mean Basin
Elevation
(feet)
9600
9120
9760

Average
Precipitation
(inches per year)
32
29
32

B. Reach between the confluence of the West, Middle, and East Mancos rivers

and a point on the Mancos River just downstream of Weber Canyon. The

site of the lower end of this river segment was chosen at a location near

the northern boundary of the Ute Mountain Ute Reservation. Inflow in

this reach is contributed by the following:

Chicken Creek
Mud Creek
Areas adjacent to
Mancos River
Weber Canyon
Total

Drainage
Area
(sq-mi)
25
40

37
37
139

.

-19-

Mean Basin
Elevation
(feet)
8000
7000

7100
7450

Average
Precipitation
(inches per year)
22
17

18
17

^.ti_"",
