~D-'''59 .
U' 00; '-

.

Although the actual diversion amounts probably varied from month to

month, the estimates listed above Were based on the following:

1. Five cfs would have provided an ample water supply for irriga-
tion of 134 acres.

Z. Inspection of the USGS records at the Johnson Canyon gage, less

a reasonable stream loss estimate for the reach between the Johnson

Canyon gage and the gage near Highway 666 as described in Part

IX below, results in an availability of approximately five cfs at

the irrigation diversion..

3.

Maximum diversions were probably in the range of seven to nine
cfs. During many periods in the 1951 through 1980 study period,
zero flow was recorded at the gage near Highway 666 gage, indicating
that all of the flow of the Mancos River was probably being diverted
into the irrigation ditch. During such periods, the total available
flow may have been considerably less than seven to nine cfs.

.

Town of Mancos Pipeline

The Town of Mancos Pipeline diverts water for municipal use from the

West Fork of the Mancos River. Records of diversions on the Town's water

right are sporadic during the study period. Records for the Town of Mancos

Pipeline are available only for the period of 1950 through 1980, excluding 1960,

1974, 1977, and 1978. Winter diversions were not recorded prior to 1971. Missing

diversion records for the Town of Mancos Pipeline during the 1938 through 1951

period were estimated to be equal to the average recorded diversions during

the 1950's, with monthly winter diversions estimated to be 40 acre-feet per

month. For use in the calculations described in Part VII of this report, average

annual diversions by the Town of Mancos Pipeline were estimated to be 650

acre-feet per year during the 1938 through 1951 period. Although actual diver-

sions may have varied somewhat from this estimate, the potential variation

.

-13-
