If: .

"

III. Environmental Impacts

A. Adverse Unmitigated

Ridgway Reservoir would inundate 4.6 miles of the Uncompahgre River

and 1,030 acres of farm and rangeland, including 100 acres of riparian
. .

habitat. Salinity concentrations in the Colorado River at Imperial Dam

would be increased by 2.7 mg/l because of stream depletions and salt loading.

B. Mitigated impacts

All land aquisitions and the relocation of displaced individuals

would be accomplished according to provisions of the Uniform Relocation

"

Assistance and Real Property Aquisition Act of 1970 and other applicable

Federal legislation and regulations. Construction specifications would

provide for landscape preservation and prevention of air and water

pollution. Im~:oyed flow patterns and water quality in the Uncompahgre

River would mitigate stream losses. Approximately 1,000 acres of private

rangeland would be purchased and intensively developed for wildlife habitat

to o~fset habitat losses at Ridgway Reservoir; and deer-proof fencing along

U.S. Highway 550 would preclude increases in deer-vehicle accidents due

to the highway relocation. Concerning cultural, historical, and archaeological

resources, if it were determined that avoidance of any significant resources

identified or located in further surveys or during construction would not

be possible, then all steps necessary for mitigation under 36 CFR Part

800 would be taken.

C. Beneficial

Residents of the Uncompahgre Valley would be provided dependable

water supplies for existing and future municipal and irrigation needs.

.
