Reasonable alternatives <br /> <br />During the course of planning studies, several alternatives to the <br /> <br />proposed project plan were formulated and analyzed. As the needs for water <br /> <br />supplies become more definite, several of the alternatives were eliminated <br /> <br />.~ <br />, <br /> <br />due to lack of justification or support. The proposed plan is felt to <br /> <br />represent the best combination of features to satisfy those needs which did <br /> <br />show full economic, environmental, and techncial justification. <br /> <br />Alternatives to the Dallas Creek Project Plan are summarized briefly <br /> <br />below: <br /> <br />. <br />Several alternative reservoir sites were examined for the Ridgway <br /> <br />" <br /> <br />Reservoir site. One site, the Cow Creek Dam axis, was particularly <br /> <br />. <br />attractive, but some environmental impacts would have been more severe <br /> <br />and enhancements to recreation and fish and wildlife wOl'ld have been <br /> <br />reduced. <br /> <br />An alternative plan to serve about 730 acres of full service land <br /> <br />west of the existing Uncompahgre Project was examined, but was not included <br /> <br />due to lack of economic justification and local support. <br /> <br />As an alternative to constructing major storage programs of water <br /> <br />conservation on presently irrigated lands and water augmentation through <br /> <br />weather modification were considered.
