C-23

002971

CALIFORNIA: No change from last report - RC&D planning temporarily
curtailed due to budget constraints.

COLORADO: Due to budget limitations all RC&D measure planning has been
suspended.

ECONOMICS, STATISTICS, AND COOPERATIVES SERVICE

ARIZONA:

Little Colorado Cooperative River Basin Study

This study is scheduled for completion in June 1980.
Working paper #1 dealing with socio-economic data is
in the writing phase with a draft for review to be completed
by August 30, 1979. The economies of the Flagstaff, Show
Low, Lakeside and Pinetop areas have been enhanced by
tourism and second home developments in recent years. The
increasing cost of gasoline will impact on this type of
economy but how much the impact will be is highly uncertain
at this point. Many permanent residents of the area commute
long distances to work and shop. These patterns will also
be affected by gas prices.

Colorado River Indian Reservation

The Plan of Work has been approved by the WAC and the
study is now funded. Final POW manuscript is now being
mailed to all participants.

Arizona Statewide

This study is intended to assemble the best available
data on irrigated agriculture (costs, returns, water
coefficients, distribution efficiencies) into an operational
analytical system. The system will be used by the USDA and
the Arizona Water Commission and others in future planning
analyses.

The Plan of Work has been reviewed by the WISC and ESCS and
is being revised to incorporate comments. It will go to
the WAC in early August 1979.

CALIFORNIA: Sacramento Valley Basin Study

Special.Study No. V, Drought Water Management Analysis is
nearly finished. The Central Valley drought report for
the period 1976 - 1978 is scheduled to be finished in FY 1979.

ESCS is tentatively planning to assist SCS in follow-up
economics work related to Special Study No. lA, Water Quality
Planning Study. A draft detailed work outline is now being
prepared jointly with the SCS.
