Meetings have been held wtth Bureau of Land Management personnel to brief them on the latest activtties. Fish and Wildlffe Service and Reclama- tion personnel discussed a wildlife habitat replacemeni plan. Production of the 5-1/2-inch special alloy tubing is nearly on schedule. The tubing is being produced in Hereford, England, and in Huntington, West Virginia. The tubing will not be delivered on-site until approximately August at which time field engineering and construction operations are anticipated to resume. Comple- tion of the test well is expecied be- tween October and December 1988. The brine pipeline construction contract is approximately 68 percent complete wtth 41 percent of the time elapsed. The brine pipeline will iransport the brine from the collection well field to ihe disposal test well. Uinta Basin Unit, Phase II, Utah Ouray Park Canal Company rep- reseniatives were informed that their canal would not be included in the Phase \I plan because of poor cost-effectiveness. The Preliminary Findings Memorandum is scheduled for completion June 30. 1988. Grand Valley plans move forward Work is nearly complete on the west end Government Highline Canal. When the newly lined canal is put into service, an addi- tional 5,600 tons of salt will be precluded from entering the river system annually. The combination of the Palisade and Mesa County Irriga- tion Districts' service areas was presented and approved at the Grand Valley Regional Project Committee meeting on February 4. The Grand Valley Regional Project Committee is comprised of representatives of Reclamation's Denver Office, Upper Colorado Regional Office, Grand Valley Projects Office, and the Montrose Projects Office. I\pproval was also given to proceed wtth the work necessary for the award of a lateral contract on the west end Government High- line Canal. Another meeting February 18 and 19 was held to discuss the proposed changes in the specffica- tions for the west end laterals. The changes included Grand Valley Water Users Association and regional comments along wtth proposed changes because of new onfarm improvements in the area. A meeting with the Director of the Colorado Water Conservation Board was held to discuss upcom- ing activities on the private lateral systems. Agreement was reached on the schedule of future activtties with the Grand Valley Irrigation Company and the Mesa County and Palisade Irrigation Districts. 2 Price-San Rafael Rivers Unit, Utah Reclamation and SCS person- nel met on February 11 to discuss the schedule for preparing a joint Bureau of Reclamation/SCS Environmental Impact Statement for the untt. Reclamation's team leader will work wtth a repre- sentative of the SCS to complete a Memorandum of Understanding between the two agencies to define each agency's respon- sibiltties. The revised Plan For- mulation Working Document is scheduled to be forwarded to Washington and Denver Offices by April 3D, 1988. SCS selects personnel for Big Sandy Office The Soil Conservation Service will open the Big Sandy Field Of- fice In Farson, Wyoming, in May 1988. This office is being estab- lished to provide technical assis- tance for implementation of the USDA Colorado River Salintty Con- trol Program in the Big Sandy Untt. David Dascht has recently been selected as the District Con- servationist for this office, and Larry Murphy selected as the Biologist. The Record of Decision to im- plement the selected plan for the Big Sandy Untt was filed Decem- ber 15, 1987, and amended January 27, 1988. Funding fOl" im- plementation has recently been made available. The Wyoming SCS State Office is sponsoring a training course on the US Fish and Wildlife Service's Habttat Evaluation Procedures
