Meetings have <br />been held wtth Bureau of Land <br />Management personnel to brief <br />them on the latest activtties. Fish <br />and Wildlffe Service and Reclama- <br />tion personnel discussed a wildlife <br />habitat replacemeni plan. <br /> <br />Production of the 5-1/2-inch <br />special alloy tubing is nearly on <br />schedule. The tubing is being <br />produced in Hereford, England, <br />and in Huntington, West Virginia. <br /> <br />The tubing will not be delivered <br />on-site until approximately August <br />at which time field engineering <br />and construction operations are <br />anticipated to resume. Comple- <br />tion of the test well is expecied be- <br />tween October and December <br />1988. <br /> <br />The brine pipeline construction <br />contract is approximately 68 <br />percent complete wtth 41 percent <br />of the time elapsed. The brine <br />pipeline will iransport the brine <br />from the collection well field to ihe <br />disposal test well. <br /> <br />Uinta Basin Unit, <br />Phase II, Utah <br /> <br />Ouray Park Canal Company rep- <br />reseniatives were informed that <br />their canal would not be included <br />in the Phase \I plan because of <br />poor cost-effectiveness. The <br />Preliminary Findings Memorandum <br />is scheduled for completion <br />June 30. 1988. <br /> <br />Grand Valley plans <br />move forward <br /> <br />Work is nearly complete on the <br />west end Government Highline <br />Canal. When the newly lined <br />canal is put into service, an addi- <br />tional 5,600 tons of salt will be <br />precluded from entering the river <br />system annually. <br /> <br />The combination of the <br />Palisade and Mesa County Irriga- <br />tion Districts' service areas was <br />presented and approved at the <br />Grand Valley Regional Project <br />Committee meeting on February 4. <br /> <br />The Grand Valley Regional <br />Project Committee is comprised of <br />representatives of Reclamation's <br />Denver Office, Upper Colorado <br />Regional Office, Grand Valley <br />Projects Office, and the Montrose <br />Projects Office. <br />I\pproval was also given to <br />proceed wtth the work necessary <br />for the award of a lateral contract <br />on the west end Government High- <br />line Canal. <br /> <br />Another meeting February 18 <br />and 19 was held to discuss the <br />proposed changes in the specffica- <br />tions for the west end laterals. <br />The changes included Grand <br />Valley Water Users Association <br />and regional comments along wtth <br />proposed changes because of <br />new onfarm improvements in the <br />area. <br /> <br />A meeting with the Director of <br />the Colorado Water Conservation <br />Board was held to discuss upcom- <br />ing activities on the private lateral <br />systems. Agreement was reached <br />on the schedule of future activtties <br />with the Grand Valley Irrigation <br />Company and the Mesa County <br />and Palisade Irrigation Districts. <br /> <br />2 <br /> <br />Price-San Rafael <br />Rivers Unit, Utah <br /> <br />Reclamation and SCS person- <br />nel met on February 11 to discuss <br />the schedule for preparing a joint <br />Bureau of Reclamation/SCS <br />Environmental Impact Statement <br />for the untt. Reclamation's team <br />leader will work wtth a repre- <br />sentative of the SCS to complete a <br />Memorandum of Understanding <br />between the two agencies to <br />define each agency's respon- <br />sibiltties. The revised Plan For- <br />mulation Working Document is <br />scheduled to be forwarded to <br />Washington and Denver Offices by <br />April 3D, 1988. <br /> <br />SCS selects personnel <br />for Big Sandy Office <br /> <br />The Soil Conservation Service <br />will open the Big Sandy Field Of- <br />fice In Farson, Wyoming, in May <br />1988. This office is being estab- <br />lished to provide technical assis- <br />tance for implementation of the <br />USDA Colorado River Salintty Con- <br />trol Program in the Big Sandy <br />Untt. David Dascht has recently <br />been selected as the District Con- <br />servationist for this office, and <br />Larry Murphy selected as the <br />Biologist. <br /> <br />The Record of Decision to im- <br />plement the selected plan for the <br />Big Sandy Untt was filed Decem- <br />ber 15, 1987, and amended <br />January 27, 1988. Funding fOl" im- <br />plementation has recently been <br />made available. <br /> <br />The Wyoming SCS State Office <br />is sponsoring a training course on <br />the US Fish and Wildlife Service's <br />Habttat Evaluation Procedures <br />
