0-1' " .'
U ~.. ~I '1

.

.

EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR'S MONTHLY REPORT
TO THE
COLORADO RIVER BOARD OF CALIFORNIA

August 3,1999

ADMINISTRA nON

Revised 1999 Board Meeting Schedule

Included in the Board folder is a copy of the Board's meeting schedule for the remainder of
the year which delineates the changes in the August and September meeting dates. It has come to my
attention that some of the Board members may have a conflict with the Board's meeting date in
November due to the National Water Resources Association Annual Conference in Phoenix, Arizona
from November 9-12,1999. The Board members may want to consider moving the meeting to either
November 3'd or November 17'b.

AGENCY MANAGERS' REPORT

The Agency Managers have not met since the July Board meeting.

PROTECTION OF EXISTING RIGHTS

Colorado River Water Report

During June 1999, storage in the major Upper Basin reservoirs increased by
2,234,000 acre-feet and storage in the Lower Basin reservoirs decreased by 155,000 acre-feet. Total
System active storage as of the end of June was 55.632 million acre-feet (mat) or 93 percent of
capacity, which is 0.989 maf less than one ycar ago.

July rcleases from Hoover, Davis, and Parkcr Dams averaged 15,590, 15,040 and 12,620 cubic
feet pcr second (cfs), respectively. Planned releases from those three dams for the month of August
are 14,600, 13,600 and 11,300 cfs, respectively. The August releases rcpresent those needed to meet
downstream water requirements.

The July 15'" forccast of April through July 1999 unregulated inflow into Lake Powell is
7.550 maf, which is 98 percent of the 30-year average for the period 1961-1990. The July 15" forecast
of unregulated inflow into lake Powell for the 1998-99 watcr year is 11.733 maf, or 100 percent of
the 30-year average.

The Lower Division states' estimated consumptive use of Colorado River water for calendar
year 1999, as estimated by Board staff. totals 8.289 maf and is projected as follows: Arizona,
2.913 maf; California. 5.111 maf; and, Nevada, 0.265 maf.
