00n206

.

The Model 444B Tipping Bucket is manufactured from a one piece
cast aluminum part in order to prevent cracks from freezing
and any deterioration which might occur from a soldered,
fabricated part.

.

The Model 436A Shaft Encoder for stream gauging is made of
only one moving part for utmost reliability. There are no
reed relays or other moving parrs that can eventually wear
out. Accuracy and resolution is 0.01 feet.

.

A VHF Synthesized Radio provides multiple frequencies from a
single unit without the need to order or stock different
radios for different frequencies. Maintenance and spares are
greatly si~plified with a universal VHF radio.

.

Stream gauges can be set to transmit at multiple intervals
(from 1 through 9) of the basic 0.01 foot resolution of the
shaft encoder. This allows for averaging of turbulent water
surfaces and provides a way to reduce radio frequency conges-
tion during heavy storm periods in dense networks, if re-
qu ired.

.

The HANDAR 585A Data Transmitter provides a battery warning
and inhibit feature to avoid unnecessary loss of data due to
battery voltage deterioration. The base station provides an
alarm whenever the voltage falls below 11.8 volts and allows
time for the battery to be inspected and replaced or recharg-
ed. In addi tion, to prevent bat tery damage, the Data Trans-
mitter will be inhibited if the battery voltage falls below
11.4 volts in order to prevent deep discharging of .the bat-
tery.

.

The HANDAR 585A Data Transmitrer will transmit at either 300
or 1 2 0 0 baud d a tar ate s . Th us, i tis c 0 mp a ti b I e wit h a II
existing 300 baud Alett systems. In addition, however, the
unit can be switched to 1200 baud, which is a proposed new
baud rate now under consideration by the United States Local
Flood Warning System Technical Working Group in order to
reduce frequency congestion in dense networks. Thus, the
HANDAR Data Transmitter will not be obsoleted by proposed
. changes under cons iderat ion.

.

The HANDAR 544U/V Store and Forward Repeater requires only one
frequency, rather than the two required by conventional voice
repeaters. This eliminates the need to obtain an additional
frequency, which are usually in short supply. Also, dual
antennas or expensive duplexers, to separate transmit and
receive frequencies, are not required as for a conventional
repeater.

4
