<br />shall comply with the renuirements for sound principles of <br />forest mananement as defined by the national Forest rules and <br />renulations.and set forth in stipulations issued by the Chief, <br />Forest Service, which as a minimum incorporate the followinq <br />basic principles of forest management: <br /> <br />(1) <br /> <br />harvestinn operations shall he so conducted as to minimize <br />soil movement and damane frnm water runoff; and <br /> <br />(2) slash shall he disposed of and other precautions shall be <br />taken to minimize damane from for~st insects, disease, and <br />fire. <br /> <br />.d. Mineral leases, permits, and licenses covering lands within <br />National Forest Wilderness will contain reasonable stipula- <br />tions for the protection of the wilderness character of the <br />land consistent with the use of the land for purposes for which <br />they are leased, permitted, or licensed. The Chief, Forest <br />Service. shall specify the conditions to be included in such <br />stipulations. <br /> <br />e. Permits shall not be issued for the removal of mineral materials <br />commonly knO\~n as "comon varieties" ,under the ~Iaterials Act of <br />July 31, 1947, as amended and supplemented (30 lJ.S.C. 601-604). <br /> <br />Section 293.15 - Prospectinn for Minerals and Other Resources <br /> <br />The Chief, Forest Service, shall allow any activity, including prospect- <br />ino, for the purpose of natherinq information about minerals or other <br />resources in National Forest ,iilderness except that any such activity <br />for oatherinn information shall be carried on in a manner compatible with <br />the preservation of the wilderness environment, and except, further, that: <br /> <br />a. rjo person sha 11 have any ri ~h t or i nteres tin or to any mi nera 1 <br />deposits which may be discovered through pro,pecting or other <br />information-gathering activity after the legal dat~ on which <br />the United States minino laws and laws pertaining to mineral <br />leasing cease to apply to the soecific Wilderness, nor shall <br />any person after such date have any preference in applying for <br />a mineral lease, license, or pennit. <br /> <br />b. No overland motor v~hicle or other form of mechanical overland <br />transport may be used in connection with prospecting for minerals <br />or any activity for the purpose of natherinq information about <br />minerals or oth~r resources except as authorized bv the Chief, <br />Forest Service. <br /> <br />c.
