. Environn~ntal commitments that will te implemented by Reclamation are identified te]ow.

]. Water Qualitv

Reclamation will continue to monitor salinity and Tota] Dissolved Solids (TDS) in the
Colorado River as part of the ongoing Colorado River Basin Salinity Control Program to
ensure compliance with the numcric criteria on the river as set forth in the Forum's ]999
Annual Review.

Reclamation will continue to participate in the Lake Mead Water Quality Forum and the
Las Vegas Wash Coordination Comnittee as a principal and fumi~ partrer in studies of
water quality in the Las Vegas Wash and Lake Mead. Reclamation is an active partner in
the restoration of the Las Vegas Wash wetlands.

Reclamation is am will continue to acquire riparian and wetlam habilat around Lake
Mcad and on the Lower Colorado River related to ongoing and projected routinc
operations.

Reclamation will continue to participate with Ihe Nevada Division of Enviromrental
Protection and Kerr-McGee Chemical Company in the perchbrate remediation program
of groundwater df;charge JXlints along Las Vegas Wash which will reduce the amount of
this contaminant entering the Colorado River.

.

Rcclamation will continue to monitor river operations, reservoir levels and water supply
and make this information availablc to the Colorado River Managerrent Work Group
(CRMWG), agencies and the public. This inJOrmation is also available on Reclamation's
website (http://www.t.usbr.gov and l:1Itp:/lwwW.UC.UIDr.gOV).

2. Riverflow Issues

Reclamation and the other stakeholders in the Glen Canyon Dam Adaptive Management
Program (AMP) are currently developing for recommmdation to the Secretary an
experirrental tbw program for the operations of Glen Canyon Dam which inch.tdes
BeachlHabitat-Building-Flows (BHBFs). BHBFs are implemented over the long-term by
hydrologic triggering criteria approved by the Secretary, and are one rn:asure
implemented subject to and consi;,1ent with existing law designed to protect and mitigate
adverse impacts to and improve the values for which Grand Canyon Nalional Park and
Glen Canyon National Recreation Area were established. This experirn:ntal fbw program
will consider both the potential for reduced frequency ofBHBFs resulting from Ihe
Interim Swplus Guidelines and for experimentalllows to be conducted independent of the
hydrologic triggering criteria. The design of the experin--ental flow program will inch.tde
the number of flows, the durat ion and the magnitude of experimental flows. The AMP
shall forward their recommendation on this matter for the Secretary's consideration.

.

13
