Other purposes include water conservation, hydroelectric
power generation, recreation, fish and wildlife enhancement, and sediment control.
The preferred alternative is Orme Dam, which is located at the confluence of the
Salt and Verde Rivers, Maricopa County, Arizona. Major facilities include the
dam, its appurtenant outlet works, spillway, reservoir, powerplant, transmission
lines, road relocations, and a reversible-flow canal with an in-line pump generation
plant, which connects the reservoir to the aqueduct system. Other actions
include relocation of about 279 residents of the Fort McDowell Indian Community
and replacement of the City of Phoenix Verde Water Field. Construction activities
would be staged over a 5-year period.

3. Summary of Environmental Impacts and Adverse Environmental ~ffects:

The principal impacts of construction would be the social and economic
effects of the relocation of Indian population. Other effects include the
inundation of riparian wildlife habitat, the inundation of archeol09ical and
historical resources, and the change from river-oriented aquatic recreation to
lake-oriented recreation.

The project would require 25,655 acres,
agriculture, wildlife, homes, and recreation, and
undetermined to develop a recreation enterprise.
and future land uses by man for other purposes.

4.
