.

.

Scope of Work Number: D

Tasks: 1, 3, 4, 5, and 6

Cooperating Agencies: Fish and Wildlife Service, Utah Division of Wildlife
Resources

FY 94 Cost: $54,800

Study Summary: Larval fishes will be sampled using fine-mesh dip nets.
Distribution and relative abundance of larvae collected here will be
compared with drift-net samples to evaluate the effectiveness of the
techniques. All sympatric species collected during ISMP sampling will be
identified to better assess the relative abundance of these species. ISMP
sampling will be conducted in the spring to assess the over-winter survival
of age-O Colorado squawfish, Sampling will be restricted to the lower 50
miles of reach 1 as designated by ISMP.

Title:

Flow effects on humpback chub populations in Westwater Canyon

Scope of Work Number: E

Tasks: 8

Cooperating Agencies: Utah Division of Wildlife Resources

FY 94 Cost: $40,000

Study Summary: The study focuses on the Westwater Canyon population of
humpback chubs in the Colorado River about 50 miles below the Gunnison River
confluence. It is designed to address the effect of high spring flows on
successful reproduction and recruitment of humpback chub, as well as the
effect of seasonal flow events on the formation of critical habitat and the
invasion/proliferation of non-native species, The study will also assess
the effects of flows on the invasion of roundtail chubs into Westwater
Canyon and the potential impact of hybridization.

Title:

Quantification of available habitat in the Gunnison River in
relation to test flows released from the Aspinall Unit,

Scope of Work Number: F

Tasks: 9

Cooperating Agencies: Fish and Wildlife Service and Bureau of Reclamation.

FY 94 Cost: $40,000

Study Summary: Aerial videography will be combined with ground truthing to
describe the available habitats in the Gunnison River and their relationship
with streamflow. Color aerial videography will be acquired at peak flow and
again at base flow, Detailed habitat measurements will be made by
individuals on the ground at the same time as the aerial videography is

8
