<br />-, <br /> <br />MONTHLY REPORT <br />SAN LUIS VALLEY PROJFX:T, COLORADO <br />APRIL, 1961 <br /> <br />RIO G~E DIVISIO~ <br /> <br />There were no activities in cormection with this Division <br />during the month. <br /> <br />CLOSED BASIN DI\1BIO~ <br /> <br />A check on a minor infestation of salt cedar in the "Sump <br />Area" reveals that spraying with chemicals, burning, and cutti..'lg <br />down are completely ineffective as control methods. A high de- <br />gree of effectiveness was evident where plants were pulled up by <br />use of a cable and truck. <br /> <br />CONITIOS DIVISION <br /> <br />There were no activities in connection with this Division <br />during the month. <br />At the end of the month plans were being made for the com- <br />ing operational season as some flood control will probably be <br />required by Platoro Dam and Reservoir. <br /> <br />RIO GRA@.E IvATER SALVAGE STUDI~ <br /> <br />Work during the month consisted of field recormaissance <br />studies along the Conejos River and Rio Grande. Some salvage <br />potentials were discovered and studied near the mouth of <br />Trinchera Creek in the Southeast Area of the Valley. <br />Mr. J. C. Douglass, Regional Project Development Engineer <br />and tW. R. C. Lord, Regional Hydrologist visited the project to <br />check on water salvage proposals made at a conference in the <br />Regional Office on April 7. 1961. <br /> <br />~~ <br /> <br />At the end of the month the May I snow surveys had been <br />practically completed.
