e;,.)
c
en
f'Y

.

.

WELL PLUGGING PROGRAM

Historically a great deal of mineral exploration using
exploritory drilling has occured throughout the Rock Springs
District. The result of such exploration has left a number of
unplugged flowing wells on public lands. Although some of these
wells are producing good to marginal water for livestock and
wildlife many are prime sources of salt production in the Green
Ri ver Bas'in.

Although no formal comprehensive inventory of these leaking wells
has been attempted we are aware of several such wells through
individual sightings and a small survey completed several years
ago. Cndoubtly this only represents a small percentage of the
wells in the Green River Basin which are flowing but as of yet
are undetected.

Costs related to inventory of such wells would require $5000 for
helicopter time to locate these wells and $8000 to ground locate
and test. Additional costs would vary for each well for
engineerihg and plugging but initial estimates suggest that
between $15000-$25000 per hole would suffice.

1
1..

:i:,
