<br />iii <br /> <br /> <br />0026;)3 <br /> <br />PREFACE <br /> <br />This report summarizes the "framework studies" of the four major water resource regions of <br />the Pacific Southwest-California, Great Basin, Lower Colorado, and Upper Colorado-produced <br />by cooperating Federal and State agencies between 1966 and 1971. <br /> <br />The four regional reports are the foundation for this analysis of the problems and opportunities <br />related to the use of water, related land, and the other physical resources of the Pacific South,,!est. <br />This analytical summary report compiles pertinent physical and sociological data, interprets the <br />economic and other interrelationships of the four regions, and provides a broad basis to guide <br />public investment in the resources of the Pacific Southwest. <br /> <br />Specialists of 24 Federal bureaus or departments, seven State governments, and one interstate <br />commission have participated in the preparation of these reports. <br /> <br />All of the work was performed at the direction of the Water Resources Council, under the <br />authority of the Water Resources Planning Act of 1965. <br /> <br />A summary of each region's framework plan is appended.
