o

C..'

~
~
(")
..;;,.

PREFACE

It is the objective of this section of the report to evaluate
the irrigation potentialities of the Arkansas, White and Red River Basins.

Early in the course of the Arkansas-White-Red Basins Survey,
the AWRBIAC established the work group on Irrigation and Reclamation
whioh has been responsible for the ooordination and preparation of the
material in this seotion. The Bureau of Reclamation served as the ohair-
man agency of the work group. All of the partioipating Federal agencies
exoept the Departments of Commerce and Labor and all of the States took
part in the activities of the work group.

The Inventory of Existing Irrigation Development " and Poten-
tially Irrigable Lands was prepared by State groups oomposed of
representatives of interested State agenoies, the Department of Agri-
oulture, the Corps of Engineers, and the Department of the Interior.
The engineering data on project type development for the five western
states of the three basins has been provided largely by the Bureau of
Reclamation. For Arkansas, Louisiana, and Missouri, the engineering
data on projeot type development was prepared cooperatively by the
Bureau of Reclamation and the Corps of Engineers. The appraisal of
non-projeot type of irrigation potentialities "has been provided largely
through the joint efforts of the Department of Agrioulture and the
Bureau of Reclamation. The technical services programs set forth in
the report were developed by the Department of Agriculture.

i
