.

.

.

Plan Formulation
Mancos Valley Salinity Study

Alternative plans were developed to display a range of possible treatments
to the irrigated lands and delivery systems in the Valley. Thirty-four
irrigation systems were evaluated separately.

Plan 1 - Future Without Program

This alternative assumes that no salinity control program will be
implemented in the MancDs Valley. Other programs will continue as they have
operated in the past. This alternative is the bench mark that the effects
of other alternatives plan are measured from.

Plan 2 - On-Farm Treatment

This alternative assumes that a sprinkler system will be installed under the
following systems: Beaver, Boss, Carpenter and Mitchel. Doerfer, Exon,
Frank, Glasgow and Brewer, Henry Bolen, Mathews, No.6, Ratliff and Root,
Sheek, Smith,Webber, Willden and Brinkerhoff, and Willis Ditches. Of the
5,554 acres irrigated from these systems, on estimated 3,216 acres would be
converted to sprinklers. No treatment is recommended for other areas in the
valley. Cost of pumping was included in this alternative.

Plan 3 - Ditch Lining Only

This alternative assumes the delivery systems would be put into pipelines in
the ditch systems where this treatment is eCDnomically feasible. The
present ditch alignment would be used and gravity pressure would not be
saved. The following systems are included in this alternative: Beaver,
Boss, Frank, Henry Bolen, and Willis. No on-farm treatment was included in
this alternative.

~lan 4 - Combined System

This alternative assumes that the following fifteen systems: Beaver, Boss,
Carpenter and Mitchel, Doerfer, Exon, Frank, Glosgow and Brewer, Henry
Bolen, Mathews, No.6, Ratliff and Root, Sheek, Smith, Webber, and Willis
would be combined. A pressure pipeline would supply water to the 5,467
acres under this systems. New sprinklers would be installed on 3,167 acres.
Gravity pressure will be supplied to all but about 100 acres under the pipe
system.

002295
