It is also caUSing exoessive water <br /> <br />logging oC adjaoent lands and adding unnece.sarl1y to pest breed- <br /> <br />lng grounds. <br /> <br />.'\ <br />, <br />The Rio Grande Water Conservation Distrlc~ ln oonsideration <br /> <br />oC it. duty and great ooncern Cor all waters oC the San Luis <br /> <br /> <br />Valley is o~fering a plan which Wl11, at no oost to the well own- <br /> <br />er, allevlate some oC this waste, improve our image as water <br /> <br />users in the Southwest and help re.otre the artesian head on our <br /> <br />underlying aquifers. <br />Beginning Noyember 1, 1971 under a STRICTLY VOLUNTARY BASIS <br /> <br />on the part oC the well owner, and at NO COST to the land owner, <br /> <br /> <br />the Rio Grande Water Conservation District wl11 go onto the land <br /> <br /> <br />Where the well or wells are looated and: <br /> <br />1. Clean up, inspect and if necessary replaoe the near top <br /> <br /> <br />oC the well, install a valve and a short disoharge pipe, <br /> <br /> <br />drill a small relief hole in the face of the valve to <br /> <br />insure that the .ell cannot be oompletely shut oCf; or <br /> <br /> <br />2. Bxeavats and out the well off at least four Csst under- <br /> <br />ground and oap off completely; or <br /> <br /> <br />3. Plug the well with a material designed to render the <br /> <br /> <br />aquifer unpenetrated and prevent any Curther intermingl- <br /> <br /> <br />ing of waters in the bore hole. <br /> <br />r ,. ... :'"".
