0_. ")!. L'
lJ 1... t (

The National Park Service estimates that 175,000 visitor days use would
occur in 1990, as a result of flat water recreation at the Coal Creek
site. This use would include boating, swimming, water skiing, camping,
and fishing. Other associated uses would be picnicking, sightseeing,
and hiking.

Visitor-day usage for flat water recreation at the Crescent site in 1990
is estimated at 100,000. Primary usage would be boating, swimming,
camping, and picnicking. Associated uses would include hiking trails,
interpretative nature studies, and sightseeing.

FISH AND WILDLIFE

The problems confronting fish and wildlife resources in the Front Range
are similar to those for the recreation resources. There are increasing
demands on the fish and wildlife resources of the Front Range. Only a
few areas still offer high quality sport fishing; for example, the South
Fork and the North Fork of the South Platte River receive extreme
pressure during summer months and moderate pressure during the rest of
the year.

South Boulder Creek has until recently been an underexploited fishery
resource. Si nce Boul der County has purchased 1 ands adj acent to the
creek, human use of this area can be expected to increase. In order to
maintain quality fishing in this area, special fishing restrictions have
been imposed for fishermen along the reach of South Boulder Creek
near the Walker Ranch open space lands.

There is a present and growi ng demand for bi g ,and small game hunti ng
along the Front Range. Mule deer are the most prevalent big game
present in the area, however, the small populations of both big and
small game do not offer any significant opportunities to improve this
resource under project development.

Waterfowl attracted to a reservoir in this area could enhance the
opportunities for waterfowl hunters in the metropolitan area.

The demands for nonconsumptive uses of wi 1 dl i fe resources, such
as hiking, birdwatching, wildlife photography, and other related
activities, are likewise increasing as the population in the Front Range
increases.

23
