Of the residential
bui 1 di ng permits issued, 73 percent were in the city of Boul der as
compared to only 29 percent of the commercial permits.

Tourism

Although tourism is included in the services sector under various
selected industries, it is important to mention since it provides
si gnifi cant jobs and income to Boul der County. Boul der County and the
city of Boulder are located adjacent to many mountainous recreational
areas, including several ski areas, lakes, national forests, and Rocky
Mountain National Park. In addition, the city of Boulder has many
recreational and cultural facil ities.

CULTURAL RESOURCES

Class III cultural resource surveys of the Coal Creek and Crescent Dam
alternatives were completed in 1979. Resources consisted of two
hi stori c Ameri can sites. Neither of these sites are considered to be
significant; hence, they were not nominated to the National Register of
Hi stori c Pl aces. A report on i nvesti gati ons and recommendati ons 15
included in the Environmental Appendix.

RECREATION

Urbanization along the Front Range is resulting in a steadily increasing
demand for recreational opportunities by area residents. At the present
time, there are limited outdoor recreation use lands or facilities in the
immediate vicinity of the study area.

20
