Many people <br />within the project communities work at these firms. <br /> <br />Employment opportunities within the Coal Creek acquisition area consist <br />of a small sand and gravel operati on located in the upper end of the <br />reservoir employing the operator and two people, and a dog kennel <br />employing only the operator. Other indirect employment in the Coal <br />Creek acquisition area is associated with cattle grazing. No employment <br />opportunities now exist within the Crescent site. <br /> <br />Income <br /> <br />Since 1970, incomes have steadily risen in both Boulder County and <br />Colorado. The medi an family income in 1978 for Boul der County was <br />$16,790, which is substantially higher than the $14,333 statewide. <br />Median family incomes have risen approximately 50 percent between <br />1969-1978 for both Boulder County and Colorado. <br /> <br />Per capita income in 1978 was al so sl i ghtly hi gher in Boul der County <br />than for the State with $8,278 and $8,116, respectively. Total wage and <br />salary employment in 1978 was near 23,000 employees and personal income <br />was al most $376 mi 11 i on. Of the 397 estab 1 i shments in Boul der County <br />in 1977, only 36 percent are located in the city of Boulder, and these <br />establishments employ only 19 percent of the total employees in manufac- <br />turing. The majority of the manufacturing firms are scattered <br />throughout the county. <br /> <br />Federal, state, and local government employment is the second largest <br />employer in Boulder County.
