<br />Locatlon ~ Dlmenslons <br /> <br />The Slumgulllon earthflow has blocked the flow of the Lake Fork of <br />the Gunnlson Rlver and formed Lake Ban Crlstobal whlch ls located about 4 <br />ml1es south of Lake Clty, Colorado, the county seat of Hlnsdale County <br />(Plate I). <br /> <br />The earthflow orlglnates at the western edge of Cannlbal Plateau <br />on Mesa Beco at an elevatlon of approxlmately 11,400 feet. The basln-llke <br />source area ls a horseshoe-shaped amphltheater about 4,500 feet ln dlameter. <br />The ollffs that 11ne the sldes of the source area range from about 400 to <br />600 feet hlgh. The earthflow descends from the souroe area down the <br />mountaln to the west, dropp1ng from 11,400 to 8,800 feet ln about 4* ml1es <br />wlth an average gradlent of 578 feet per mlle. <br />The earthflow 1s generally dumb-bell shaped, oblate ln both the <br /> <br />source and termlnatlon areas, and relatlvely slender ln the major area of <br />movement (Plate II). <br /> <br />3 <br /> <br />~ <br />~ <br />~ <br />en <br />~ <br />~ <br />
