The tremendous volume of earth <br /> <br />mater1al wh1ch flowed nearly 5 m1les down the slope of Mesa Seco blocked the <br /> <br /> <br />Lake Pork of the Gunn1son R1ver and formed Lake San Cr1stobal, the largest <br /> <br />natural water body 1n Colorado. <br /> <br /> <br />The purpose of th1s book 1s to 1ntroduce to the layman and to the <br /> <br /> <br />profess1onal a conc1se, easy to read account and record of the events that <br /> <br />took place before, dur1ng, and after the format1on of the Slumgul110n <br /> <br />earthflow. <br /> <br />A major port1on of the text deals w1th observat1ons of movements and <br /> <br />veloc1t1es of earth mater1al tak1ng place at the present t1me. <br /> <br />It 1s hoped that w1th the a1d of th1s paper you w111 be prepared to <br /> <br />more fully enjoy the magn1tude and beauty of the Slumgul110n earthflow. <br /> <br />S1ncerely, <br /> <br />/;U~ <br />J.
