The results of the assessment will enable <br />the GCMRC to answer key questions about the future use and application of the tested <br />images and collection techniques. The images will be evaluated for their ability to be used <br />in the analysis and mapping of the Colorado River ecosystem. An anticipated result of the <br />initial remote sensing and GIS program would be to establish a three to five year rotating <br />schedule of data acquisition. However, the frequency and resolution necessary for specific <br />resource monitoring in the Colorado River corridor has yet to be determined. <br /> <br />The proposed remote sensing plan together with the GIS plan represents an <br />important undertaking by GCMRC which, when completed, will provide the basis for <br />comprehensive resource monitoring in the Colorado River ecosystem, Investigation of the <br />application of these technologies to the GCMRC monitoring program may require <br />additional data processing software, expertise, and perhaps outside consulting. Utilization <br />of remote sensing is expected to result in: fewer river trips, less impact, more resource <br />monitoring components and greater geographic area monitored per dollars spent.
