This <br />information represents an extremely valuable asset to researchers, managers, and interested <br />stakeholders, but has yet to be developed into an ecologically integrated information <br />system. Its potential for problem solving, improving management guidelines, modeling <br />relationships, or increasing understanding of the various resources and systems under study <br />justifies an aggressive program of information acquisition, management, and subsequent <br />analysis. <br />The goal of the Information Technology Program (lTP) is to satisfy the information <br />needs of stakeholders, scienlists, and the public relalive to the Colorado River ecosystem in <br />terms of content and delivery. Key to achieving this goal is the development and <br />maintenance of three core information technologies: 1) a data base management system <br />(DBMS) for tabular information and other electronic non-spatial information, 2) a <br />geographic information system (GIS) for electronic spatial information, and 3) a library for <br />hardcopy information. Content of these systems wiJI consist of all information gathered as <br />the result of GCMRC investigations, both past and present, and additional information <br />relating to the Colorado River ecosystem. <br />The full exploitation of archived data requires sufficient information as to its context <br />including quality, comparability, and temporal and spatial aspects.
