[priority 5]
Proposed Activities:
1) Infonnation dissemination! tribal educational efforts! access to GCMRC data. The
GCMRC is concerned with ensuring participation in implementing appropriate methods for
dissemination of monitoring and research infonnation to tribal and other stakeholder groups
for an understanding of human occupation and impacts in the Colorado River ecosystem, The
GCMRC will work with the Native American communities to develop appropriate
mechanisms for public outreach and information dissemination including participatory
educational efforts. Possible future projects include educational agreements, publications in
varying fonnats for infonnation dissemination to tribal members, student outreach field trips
and visits, and workshops developed by the GCMRC and Native American hosts to present
differing perspectives on canyon resources and dam operations.
Without the benefit of results from the on-going projects, specific research endeavors
cannot be proposed at this time. While addressing resource impacts, research studies
proposed by GCMRC in the future should coordinate, when feasible, with the general
research domains developed within the PA program's Historic Preservation Plan. These areas
provide an intellectual framework to fonnulate data collection and these domains infonn on
important aspects of past occupation within the river corridor. These domains include: dating
and chronometrics, demography, subsistence, settlement systems, cultural affiliation, socio-
political issues, technology and exchange.
In addition, a full range of methods for data retrieval must be devised within the
research designs. These methods can include non-invasive techniques such as historical
literature searches, traditional oral histories, remote sensing, conventional invasive data

...:".
",
~

-:i

\.:

,','
"
o.

'.'

,.'

,
,.

I.':,:
"
'.';

,-"
i_:
".:,
;...:
~~;j
..'1;'

~,
)-}
~?~

November S. 1998
Second Draft - Do Not Cite, Pbotocopy, or Distribute
