,p~.:

The entire north side of the proposed reservoir would be easily
accessible via Colorado 82, a paved highway that roughly parallels the
north shore of the existing lakes, The south side of the reservoir is
accessible on foot only.

.

A resort community is developing along the north shores of the
present Twin Lakes. Hillsides are being subdivided, and new cabins are
being built. Much of the area still is used as cattle range, The east
and west limits of the basin (fig. 4), and part of the south side, are
being used as rangeland; the remainder of the south side is relatively
steep and is covered by small pine and spruce, characteristic of high
altitudes.

AVAILABLE PROJECT DATA

The proposed Twin Lakes Dam, an earthfill structure that is one of
several features of the authorized Fryingpan-Arkansas Project, would
raise the water-surface elevation of an existing reservoir from the
present 9,192 feet to 9,256 feet. Live storage capacity would increase
from 54,862 to 260,000 acre-feet. Pertinent project data include:

Total reservoir capacity

260,000 acre-feet

Normal surface area

4,160 acres

He igh t of dam

105 feet

.

Under the Fryingpan-Arkansas Project, water diverted from the
Colorado River drainage and reregulated native eastern-slope water would
provide for supplemental irrigation, supply new and supplemental ~uan-
titles !'0!' !,!1.1.!'~ cj,pal and industrial use, and enable the generation of
hydroelectric power. Other objectives of the proJec" include fluud a~d
sediment control, stream-pollution abatement, fish and wildlife conserva-
tion, and enhancement of recreational opportunities,

Twin Lakes Reservoir and Canal Co., which operates the existing
reservoir, has informally requested 54,000 acre-feet of reservoir storage
in addition to replacement of its present capacity.

LAND OWNERSHIP

Records in the Lake County courthouse indicate that the following
described lands in T. 11 S., R. 80 W., are owned by the State of Colorado:

NtNW, SENW, and that part of NESE north uf the

,...1..^ -t.....
