Lamm
Governor of Colorado
State Capitol
Denver, Colorado 80203

tier 1

1979

Dear Governor Lamm:

--We are pleased to provide for your_ considera tion a copy of the ProP9s~d
River Management Plan for Dinosaur National Monument.

The document outlines how use of the monument's rivers will be managed
to provide for maximum use and enjoyment while at the same time minimizing
adverse impacts to the river environs. The plan also provides for equal
distribution of use between private and commercial users.

The proposed plan represents 2~ years of planning and public involvement
efforts on the part of Dinosaur National Monument. The process began in
February 1976 with public workshops to identify critical issues to be
considered in formulation of a river management plan. In 1977 another
series of public workshops was held to review alternative methods of
managing river use. The public input and several professional studies
were used in developing the proposed plan.

A trial program to make additional float trip opportunities available to
special populations was carried out during the 1979 boating season. In
addition, some provisions of the proposed plan were used in the 1979
season on a trial basis.

\.

The proposed river management plan is being made available to the public
for review and comment through October 31, 1979. It is hoped that a
final plan can be developed by November 15, 1979, in order to implement
its procedures for the 1980 river use season which begins with an
application period starting December 1, 1979.

Your continuing interest and support for the programs of the National
Park Service are appreciated.

Sincerely yours,

.J_~ n T.
~~Regional Director
Rocky Mountain Region

1370

J

Save Energy and You Serve America!

Enclosure
