Thi s plan would provide Colorado Springs with 2.700 acre-feet
of: munioipal water from the upper Middle Beaver Creek watershed. It
represent s a refinement of the plan far supplying the same amount of:
water that was desoribed in the preliminary report of the potential
Gunnison-1\rkansus Projeot. Under this plan. the water would be pllmped
upwurd a pproximtely 140 feet from Midd le Beaver Creek int 0 the existing
Colorado Springs munioipal supply system beginning with Reservoirs 4
anQ 5 whioh empty into Rux-bon Creek. The pumped wuter, together with
the present supply would be regulated in Seven Lakes Reservoirs and re-
lensed. into the existing 20~inch pipel:ine. The water would generute
enorgy in the munioipally-o-<med Ruxton ani Munitou hydroeleotrio power-
plants of the Colorado Springs system.

9. The unnuo.l diversion of 2,700 aore-feet from the Beuver Creek
watershed would reduoe the water supply for the downstream Skaguay
Reservoi'r. That reduotion would cause an o.nnualloss of about 2,500,000
kilowutthours of energy from the Skaguay hydroeleotx'io plant, both .
facilities owned und operated by the Southern Colorado Power Company.
Estinntes of: the annual gain and loss in Jwdroelootrio power production
as a result of the diversion o.re as follows:

Gain at Ruxton and Manitou plants. . . .

Power required Ear pumpingq ~ 0 . 0 . . .
Loss at Skaguay plant 0 g . e _ 8. 9 &
Net over",.l g.'1in in produoti on. . . .

Annual kw.'.hrs.
7,500;000
500,000
- 2,500,000
4,500~000

10. It appeurs the.t the net overal'- annual gain of 4,500,000
kilowatt hours to the ,).ity of Colorado Springs would be suffioient ei the r:
(D.) to finanoe the oonstruction of a transmission line for the replaoe-
ment of power lest at the Skaguo.y plant or: (b) if sold, would result
in revenues suffioiont for the oity to reimburse the Southern Colorado
Power Company. For the purpose of this study it ho.s been assumed that
the debits and oredits ::nvolved in the pOWer tran~~_m,i"n wo'_dd be r.tbout
equ0.1J therefore, the oost of th6 "'l'nnsmission line m.s nab beell in~
oluded in arriving 9t tho ~ost of munioipal ~ter.
