C)
C)
~
00
c.o
o

B. COACHELLA VALLEY
The average yields of the major agricultural crops of the Coachella Valley
were obtained from Crop Production Reports prepared by the Coachella Valley
County Water District. The 95% confidence interval of nine crops together
with yields from six years are shown in table 22. Halsey (1954) prepared a
crop distribution by soil series report for this area. This same distribution
was applied to the acreages of the crops for the year 1973. These acreages
were then grouped according to the drainage characteristics of each of the
soli sodes, (Soi I Conservation Service, USDA, Indio, unpubl ished soi 1 survey).
This is shown in table 23.
In table 8 of the report on Imperial Valley the Ind!o soi I was equated
to the well drained soi I in this valley, Meloland was equated to the model'ately
well drained soil, the stratified to a poorly drained soil, and the Imperial
complex to the very poorly drained soil. These data together with the declina-
tion data from the California Committee of Consultants (1974) was used to
calculate tables 24 through 32 showing the projected yields of the nine major
crops in Coachella. Sample costs of product, lon can be found in Agricultural
Extension Riverside County Mimeo's (I) Thompson seedless grapes, Marsh grape-
fruit, Naval oranges, and lemons.

Table 22.
