Its seeds are used as <br />food by ducks; its rootstalk is important to eeese and <br />muskrats, and followine rainS, the plant is readily erazed <br />by cattle. This and other emergent species are known and <br />utilized commercially for food and foraee, althoueh laree <br />variations in quality occur between strains. This task is <br />to estimate the extent of local demand for forage, the <br />forage market structure, the current and historical <br />supply. the price and quality schedule, and tbe price <br />required for market impact. Potential markets are forage <br />for water fowl and wildlife, foraee for cattle. sheep, <br />pigs, horses, feed 'for poultry, and forage for <br />over-wintering of cow-calf operations, The output <br />expected from this task is the identification of markets <br />and opportunity targets, as well as plans for entry and <br />testing, pertinent to STEP crops as forage. <br /> <br />VII, Water Riehts/Replacement Water <br /> <br />Resolve the issue of water rights during the demonstration <br />phase with state and local agencies.
