VIII. IRRIGATION SYSTEMS

Irriga~ion syster.l e,'aluaLions .ere completed on 124 fields on 24 farms. The
results are displayed by major soil groups. Irrigation system distribution
uniformity (DU) represents water entering the soil (usually represented by lo~
soil moisture measurements in one-fourth of the field) divided by the water
'applied times 100. DU design is the designer's prediction of how the improved
irrigation system would distribute water uniformly across the field and store
water within the root zone. DU actual is the installed irrigation system
ability to uniformly place water in the root zone, as measured in the field.
Field application efficiency (FAE) indicates the irrigator's ability to
schedule and apply needed volumes of water throughout the year.

Soil Number Irrigation System Field
Texture of Field Distribution Uniformity Application
Groups Evaluations Desi!,:n Actual Ef fi c i enc v
(management)
1/ 2/ 2./ 4/
~~ 5 85 83
17 80 70 70
2 90 90
17 67 66 66
13 67 66 70
4 70 70 75
Total 58
(Average of 6 farms) 77 74 70
~ediu:n 1 80 90 87
--
2 80 74 57
1 80 70 74
1 85 87 61
2 75 87 57
2 80 90 90
7 80 88 68
4 77 73 50
5 80 82 69
11 75 90 67
3 85 88 80
3 75 90 78
3 87 90 69
Total 45
(Average of 13 far:os) 80 85 70
~ 3 85 85 69
6 80 90 75
8 83 86 75
1 90 78 50
3 90 80 73
Total "'IT
(Average of 5 farms) 86 84 68
TOTAL 124
(AVERAGE OF 24 FAR.'lS) 80 82 70
-10-
