GEOLOGY

~
C~
~ Seismic
~

1. Question - Would the dams be in danger from earthquakes?

Answer No.

2, Question

Answer

The project area is in Zone 1 on the Environmental
Science Service Administration seismic risk map - this
indicates low risk, with minor damage to structures
such as houses in the event of an earthquake. It
would not be expected that such low magnitude events
would damage rolled earth embankments constructed by
modern methods.

Would the reservoir induce seismic activity?

- No.

Induced seismic activity from compressive loading is
associated with very large reservoirs in some areas,
These small reservoirs would have no such effect.
Seismic activity from water introduced into underlying
strata would not be expected since basement rock at
both reservoirs is relatively impervious shale,
