Mexican officials have stated the salinity of the Colora~o River is the outstanding problem between the two countries. This is well recosnized by the State De~artment. ht the December 1970 Colorado River Hater Users' Association, Hr. J. F. Friedkin, United States Commissioner, International Boundary and Hater Commission, stated his support for remedial measures to prevent future increases in selinity. Conclusions A key policy objective which has been expressed by the Colorado River Board and Federal officials is that salinity of the Lower Colo- rado River should be maintained at or near present levels. Salinity is recognized as a basinwide problem, and salinity control measures should be undertaken in cooperation with the Federal government and the Colorado River Basin states. Mexico is also vitally interested, as Colorado River salinity is one of the major controversial issues between the United States and Hexico.
