"

~

.

.

AGENDA ITEM 1F2d

/

\.\~~

REPORT OF THE U. S. GEOLOGICAL
WATER RESOURCES DIVISION
COLORADO DISTRICT

7

Ma rch 14, 1968

We would like to report on the status of four reports prepared
by the Geological Survey. The report on the hydrology of the Piceance
Creek Basin for the Colorado Water Conservation Board has been approved
and is being finalized for publication as State Circular 12. We expect
it will be available for distribution before the next Board meeting.

Cliff Jenkins' report on techniques for computing rate and volume
of stream depletion by wells has been distributed to various water agencies
in the State and will be published in Volume 6, No.2, of the publication
Ground Water, a journal of the National Water Well Association. A
subsequent report by Mr. Jenkins describing some of the uses of his
techniques is in final review at the District level and will be released
to the open-files pending publication in Water Resources Research, a
journal of the American Geophysical Union.

Our report of the 1965 floods in the South Platte is scheduled
for release June 1968 in the Survey's Water Supply Paper series (WSP 1680).

Our efforts to decrease the time between data collection and
data dissemination are producing marked results. Nearly all of our
water-quality data has been put in ADP format. A large part of our
surface water and ground water data will be available in similar format
within the next six months. Utilizing the facilities recently installed
at the Federal Center, these data will be published much more rapidly
than they have been in the past. Utilizing ADP also permits presenting
the information in a wide variety of formats. We are surveying the needs
of various water agencies to determine which formats will be most
appropriate for future data releases.
